Our mothers day trip was more than just a day on the water. Mid day after lunch and a mild wind we went back out to fish. Katie's line got tangled up in the drive of my electric motor, as i spent 20 min trying to pull the line from my drive i quickly learned it would be safer to get to shore and use tools to pull my prop apart. Katie started to tow me in however with the wind it was quickly draining her batteries. Fast forward she made it to shore and i started paddling not making progress with the wind and waves pushing against me. She was able to flag down a boat to help tow me back. They tossed me a rope but were not in the right position, i was parallel to the back of his boat, and as he took off it caused me to flip my kayak in 40 degree water. I knew i was in trouble and there wasn't much they could do with the wind and choppy water pushing the boats together. I had my PDF on and it helped keep me afloat long enough for me to calm down and flip my yak back upright, gather all my items floating in the water and tie off a rope to the front. I was able to swim to the boat and they were able to pull me up, and we got the yak back to shore. Moral: regardless of how stupid it looks or feels always wear your PDF while out on the water. It saved my life and it could save yours.
